Produced as Coteaux de Saumur, the Chenin shows off yet another of its faces, no doubt one of its most prestigieuse ones – its ability to produce what many people would classify as one of the greatest sweet wines of the world. As in Vouvray and Montlouis, the roots of the Coteaux de Saumur vines delve deep down into the chalk which without doubt gives the wines their typical freshness and liveliness.  In Saumur the tradition is to just produce Coteau in the very great years when the grapes are concentrated to a maximum by pourriture noble, passerillage and perfect weather conditions, including both sun and wind.

The bottles of Coteaux de Saumur hidden away in our rock-hewn cellars for tens – if not hundreds - of years are proof of the savoir faire of passionate wine growers and the miracles the climatic conditions can produce, as for example in 1893, 1921, 1945, 1947, 1959, 1964, and, closer, 1989, 90, 95, 96, 97, 2003 et 2005...
